The DESC Physical Education department currently consists of three full time teaching members of Staff, plus 3 part time members of staff.
All pupils take part in 2 core PE lessons per week covering a wide range of activities, taken from the National Curriculum. The department is fortunate to have excellent facilities, double Sport shall, 6 lane 25m pool, one artificial pitch, one grass pitch plus training area, 3 outdoor netball courts. This means that lessons are unaffected by the hot weather.
The department runs the EDEXCEL GCSE Physical Education course. It is a popular option with students consisting of 60% Practical work and 40% Theory. The department also runs the AS and A2 EDEXCEL Physical Education course, which consists of 50% E Portfolio, and 50% examination.
Extra Curricular PE is an important element of the department and the school is fortunate to have the assistance of a large number of staff, including specialist Netball, and Swimming coaches who help with the extra curricular programme. These staff are invaluable in enabling DESC to field the large number of teams, and put on the extensive range of activities outside of lesson time.
