The DESC charity committee is made up of students from all year groups and decides which charities to support each year. The committee meets regularly to organise events to either raise money or collect much needed materials for the chosen charities.
Many students have helped out this year and have given their time to help support others who are in need. The emergency appeal fund this year focused on Haiti. After the devastating earthquake struck the already poor developing country the Charity Committee supported FDESC who were very keen to raise funds for UNICEF to send much needed aid to Haiti. The Ladies at FDESC created the Map of Haiti which students and parents and staff signed to show their support in return for a AED 10 donation or more and the Charity Committee at helped to collect the money and promote the cause at break times. The college managed to raise the fantastic total of over AED 16,000 in a few short weeks!

The Charity Committee also chose to support the Kathleen Keegel Orphanage in Sri Lanka as their overseas charity this year and collected hundreds of books which were generously donated by students and parents which will be invaluable to the orphanage in establishing a library for the children. The orphanage has also benefitted from donations of school bags and school equipment from DESC students as part of a House competition organised by the Head of Houses. DESC has also contributed financially with money raised from donations on Mufti Days over the last year as well as from donations at the Concerts organised by the Head of Music.
The Charity Committee would like to thank you the DESC community for their donations this year and I am sure the Charity Committee will go from strength to strength in future with your continued support.
Ms Morgan, Charity Committee Co-ordinator
